THE HEART IS THE THING – The Good Hearted Persons (Part 2)
A good (fertile) hearted person prioritizes his life by channeling his
energy towards the things of God first as well as making time for other
responsibilities. He understands that the word of God is the only creative
agent that can generate a true and meaningful life and give him lasting and
eternal inheritance as the bible states in Act 20:32 (KJV) “And now, brethren, I
commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you
up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.” Their time of studying God’s word and
prayer goes beyond the space of Church bible reading and corporate prayer
meetings.
Just like the case of Daniel they are deliberate and make time to study
God’s word and pray; they do not allow anything to take their time of private
studying of the scripture and prayer. They do not even allow church activities
and ministry responsibilities to deprive them of their personal time for the
word of God. “Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto
them, and said, It’s is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and
serve tables.” Act 6:2. This group of believers have a deeper understanding
and know that it is in giving time to reading, memorizing and meditating the
word of God that will make them fruitful; they know the value of going through
these three stages of assimilating God’s word.
Digging deeper into the deep
things of God is their major fixation and they reckon that it is only in the
deep that they have an encounter with the wonders of God “These see the
works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.” Psalm 107:24 (KJV). Having
a mental accent of the scriptures is only a minute portion of their time of studying
God’s word, they go further into meditating on what they have studied because they
know it is only when the word of God begins taking root in their heart that
they can start bearing fruits.
A good (fertile) hearted person delights in the
word of God day and night “But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in
his law doth he meditate day and night.” Psalm 1:2 (KJV). And he knows that
as he “reads the bible, he must frequently pause so as to understand the
meaning of what he is reading. He must assimilate the word into his system by
dwelling on it, pondering on it, going over it again and again in his mind,
considering from different angels, until it becomes part of him “ – Nancy
Demoss Wolgemuth.
It is the ability of the Good (fertile) hearted believer to assimilate,
retain and actualize the word of God that makes him fruitful and sets him apart
from other believers in the house of God. His upward drive of showing forth
godly character distinguishes him from the rest of the three categories of
people, not necessarily how talented or gifted he is, as the bible says “I
may be able to speak the languages of human beings and even of angels, but if I
have no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or a clanging bell. I may have the gift of inspired preaching; I
may have all knowledge and understand all secrets; I may have all the faith
needed to move mountains---but if I have no love, I am nothing.” 1st Corinthians 13:1-2 (GNB).
God
is more concerned with finding fruits in our lives than the gifts of the
spirit. The church in Corinth was said to be the most spiritually gifted
church, yet Apostle Paul referred to them as unspiritual because they lacked the fruit of the spirit
in 1Corinthians 3:1-3 “And I,
brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even
as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for
hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are
yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions,
are ye not carnal, and walk as men?”
A good (fertile) hearted person is
more concerned with becoming Christ like, than becoming powerful and rich; he
knows that God is more interested in his divine transformation than becoming
comfortable in this fleeting material world; he is ready to obey the voice of
God without any objection. His flight is on the upward trajectory of getting
closer and knowing God and making him known to his immediate world.
His primary
concern is how he can project God in everything he does. And it is in projecting
God in everything he does that pulls people to God; he is a vivid manifestation
of who God is, he is that magnetic force in his community (office, home, among
his friends, etc) that attracts people to God. He is probably the only bible a Muslim
will read to come to Christ.
At this juncture you might have known which category of the four people
you belong to and knowing which of the group you belong to is not the goal of
this narrative, but to encourage us to move towards the ultimate which is
becoming a FRUITFUL BELIEVER as the scriptures talked about in John 15:16 (KJV)
“ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye
should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that
whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.“
Wherever
we find ourselves should not discourage us but we must rather press on and move
towards perfection- that is all the Christian race is about; it is about
growing in the things of God, it is about moving forward, it’s not a static
relationship. We must leave the past sins and failures behind and move on
toward the mark of the high calling of God as the scripture prescribes
Philippians 3:13-14(KJV) “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended:
but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching
forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize
of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
“People draw closer to trees that have fruits on them”
