THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF PORNOGRAPHY 2

“For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel.”

2 Samuel 12:12(KJV) 

The destruction of the male figure in the family is the surest way of destroying the very foundation of every society; lives and destinies of every society is shaped and nurtured in the home, which is the family. Remember the the popular saying “Charity begins at home”, the very things that would hold society in unison is charity which is love, has its very foundation at home in the family. And the head of every family is the male figure and the easiest way to destroy every given people is to attack their very foundation which is the stability of the family unit and the easiest way to do that is to attack the head of those units which are the men. 

So pornography, although it affects women negatively to some extent, was purposely designed to attack and weaken the male figure in the family. Remember what happened to King David after his sexual escapades with  Bathsheba in 2^nd Samuel 12:8 – 12 (KJV) “ And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.”  From this scripture I want us to analyze the negative effect of pornographic addiction on the FAMILY UNITS -:

a)      Open Doors For Satanic Onslaught – One of the dangers of pornography that most men don’t seem to notice is the fact that it has a way of unleashing demonic onslaught not only on them, but also on their families. A man gets into pornography, gets addicted to it and goes to the extent of sleeping with other women unprotected. What this action does to him is simple, it opens him and his family up to HIV/AIDS infection which has the propensity of unleashing the greatest fear of man to his family which is DEATH. 

     Remember the consequences that confronted King David after his illicit affairs that led to death of Innocent Uriah. God told him “Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.”  2^nd Samuel 12:10(KJV). The sexual impropriety David had with Bathsheba led to the death of an innocent unborn child according to 2Samuel 12:14- 15 (KJV) “ Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.” 

    There a countless lives of innocent children that are being sacrificed because some of us men are just refusing to ZIP our trousers, we just unzip our trousers anyway and anyhow just to satisfy our carnal cravings without giving thought to the effect of our actions on other people. This action is one of the evidence of selfishness in the heart of men; it is all about me and my satisfaction. Remember what the scripture says in Philippians 2:4 (GNB) “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”

b)      It Shreds the Family Apart – Most families have been destroyed because of sexual immorality especially pornographic addiction. If you are a man and you think you are having fun because of your sexual conquest, then think twice, because you are   are setting your family up to be shredded into pieces by Satanic forces. I have seen some good marriages destroyed and scattered into pieces because of pornographic addiction. Just like the case of Kunle, I have seen men who got addicted to pornography and desired less of their wives thereby leading them to attain sexual satisfaction out of the confines of their matrimonial bed. 

   This addictive tendencies normally leads to the breaking up of the family, which eventually leads to the curtailment of the head figure’s influence in the family. I have seen and heard kids especially young girls who have sworn never to trust men, because of what they perceived as the selfishness and recklessness meted out to their mother by their fathers, whereas the young boys have totally lost respect for their fathers and thereby usurping their authorities. The goal of Satan through sexual impropriety is to destroy the family. 

     During the height of his success David took advantage of his royal stature to commit an abominable act. This act of sexual impropriety led to the shredding of his family; his family was in disarray and disjointed. His own household rose up against Him - his son Amnon raped his own sister Tarmar according to 2^nd Samuel 13: 6 – 15. This act angered Absalom one of David sons who revenge by killing his brother Amnon according to the account 2^nd Samuel 13:20 – 20. Besides the punishment, Absalom his own son also rose and fought against King David for the Kingship of Israel according to 2^nd Samuel 15: 1 -.

c)      It brings Shame and Disgrace – The shame and disgrace that sexual impropriety brings on the family can be very unbearable. It has a pealing effect on the psychology of children. I once heard a sad story of a man who had a good job and an enviable career. His employer rented a four bedroom house for him in one of the wealthiest communities, yet because of pornographic addiction this man ended up spending most of his life earnings chasing women. He eventually ended retiring without a house of his own and moving his family to a rented compound house in one of the slums of Accra. 

     This embittered his wife and children because they couldn’t come to terms with the fact that their dad was unable to provide them with a decent accommodation. His nefarious sexual adventure led to an open disgrace relative to where he ended up staying. King David had a similar reward in terms of principle although their ends might not have the same similitude- 2 Samuel 12:12(KJV) “For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel.” The bombastic disgrace was what King David’s son Absalom meted out to his concubines according to 2 Samuel 16:22(GNB) “So they set up a tent for Absalom on the palace roof, and in the sight of everyone Absalom went in and had intercourse with his father's concubines.”

One thing that runs across this journey is the fact that whatever we are doing in secret, will be rewarded in the open. So we should be careful of what we are doing when nobody is around us. The virtue to doing the right thing when no one is watching is the necessary quality every believer must strive to have. It will set us apart and embolden us to go around doing the work of the Lord with Joy. I pray for every man struggling with the recurrent pornographic addiction to receive the grace of God; may you be set free by reason of the work Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross.
