THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF PORNOGRAPHY – A CASE STUDY OF KING DAVID

"But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Mathew_5:28(KJV)

Kunle and Demilola were college lovers, who happily got married after a very blissful and inspiring relationship. Just like some marriages, Kunle and Demilola started their own family with good jobs and a balance family live; they were able to make time out of their busy schedule to spend quality time with their two adorable kids as well as make time for the things of God. They were committed members of their local community church and their family life and faith served as an inspiration for a lot of people in the community;

the young men and women of their local community wished to one day grow up and become an exact replica of this couple. Their two kids, Shola and John were one of the well- behaved and cultured kids in the community, just like their parents, many children in the community were being positively influence by them; their mannerism became a point of correction for most parents who were trying to correct and reprimand their recalcitrant kids.

Along the line of his career Kunle, had a new colleague at his work place called Muja. Muja was one of the best civil engineers with a proven track record in the whole country. So Kunle was excited at the prospect of partnering Muja to execute one of biggest engineering project in his home state, somewhere north eastern part of the country. He saw it as an opportunity to learn under the feet of one of the best engineers in the country, so as to improve his own track record and advance in his career.

Along the line of executing this project, Kunle and Muja as Team leaders of this project developed a very close affinity, this relationship was kind of lopsided as Muja’s values and way of living began to overshadow that of Kunle. Muja began to expose Kunle to watching seductive magazines during their leisure time at the project site, when Kunle objected to it Muja with his domineering influence prevailed over Kunle’s values he has held over the years.

So from watching seductive magazine, Kunle through the influence of Muja moved to watching pornographic movies online and his newly acquired downward immoral spiral continued until Kunle got addicted to hard core pornography. The addiction to this hardcore pornography led Kunle, to start going after commercial sex workers who were well trained to satisfy his sexual fantasies and escapades. These sexual encounters continued on weekly basis, and finally led to Kunle cutting his trip back home to his family from weekly basis to monthly, since his wife does not seem to be well versed in the art of sexual acrobatic that he is beginning to get used to.

This behavior started destroying the inspiring family and religious life that Kunle’s family had built over the years; Kunle began to desire less of his wife’s company and started giving excuses anytime that he was supposed to make love to his wife. Kunle’s absence in the home began to affect the up-bringing of his kids, since he was mostly not around to provide the necessary fatherly influence that is needed to raise the kids. The excuses to his wife and kids as well as his moral degradation continued till his wife began to get worried.

Having noticed satanic infiltration of her home, Demilola begun to commit her marital problem to God in prayer, after several confrontation with her husband Kunle backfired. The more she prayed, the more Kunle’s newly acquired negative habit seemed to continue, but Demilola, never gave up on her Husband. She kept praying for him, until Kunle began to notice the mess he had gotten himself into. He noticed the gradual destruction of the moral fiber of his kids, owing to his absence. Besides this, he found himself spending all his money on one particular sex worker because of her threats to blackmail him with videos and pictures of their sexual encounters.

This threat of blackmail began to have negative effects on Kunle’s finances and focus at work. This led to his eventual dismissal from work and suspension of his engineering license. At this juncture,  Kunle noticed the quagmire he found himself in. Kunle disgracefully went back home to his family in Lagos. After many days of praying for her husband, Demilola decided with her pastor to talk to her husband about the situation again,

but to their amazement Kunle burst into tears and narrated the situation he had found himself in and asked for the forgiveness of God, his wife and his kids.  His pastor organized counselling sections coupled with fasting and prayers to help Kunle out of the addiction he had found himself in. Kunle’s inner desire, to make things right with God was the turning factor in this situation. His inner desire to want to please God and do the right things is what led him to overcome his addiction debacle.

The bible talked about similar accounts of The great King David in 2 Samuel 11:1-27 (KJV)  “And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem. And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman.

And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?  And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.  And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.  And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David. And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.

And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king. But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house. And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house? And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields;

shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.  And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow. And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house. And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die. And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were. And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also. Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war; And charged the messenger, saying,

When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king, And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall? Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also. So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.

And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate. And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also. Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another:

make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him. And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.”

Just like King David, Kunle’s exposure to illicit sexual views led him to adultery that eventually destroyed his reputation and brought shame to him. David’s sexual encounter also led to unwanted pregnancy, killing of an innocent soul - Uriah, the God-fearing husband of Bathsheba according to 2nd Samuel 11:15-17 and the death of an unborn child according to 2nd Samuel 12:13-18

Just like Kunle’s illicit sexual encounter led to blaspheming of God’s name in his local community, David’s adultery also led to blaspheming of God’s name according to 2Samuel 12:14A (KJV)  “Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme…………….” .
