“HOW TO OVERCOME PORNOGRAPHIC ADDICTION 2”
As we draw the curtain
to a close on this series, one thing that is clear is that- God wants us to
overcome any recurrent sin of sexual impropriety as stated in 1Corinthians_6:18(KJV) “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man
doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against
his own body.” It’s the father’s desire that each of his children should
live a life of holiness and He has provided that grace for us to triumph over
sin in Christ Jesus. After making your mind up to stop this addiction, you must
seek external help. In your bid to do that
· Seek Help from a matured believer – Overcoming
pornographic addiction is not very easy when you are on your own, so the advice
here is to seek help from matured believers and pastors. One of the barriers to
seeking external support regarding pornographic addiction is the shame and the
embarrassment associated with it, but the fact that freedom and peace that
comes with overcoming it far outweighs its associated shame and embarrassment
is what should spur you to seek help.
Remember the scripture that says that “He that covereth his sins shall not
prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Proverb 28:13 (KJV). Remember that
you cannot win the battle alone, you need the support of other brethren or
loved ones in this battle; as you seek the help and support of other Christians
note that you have an advantage to overcome this addiction as you rely on the
encouragement and prayer support of the brethren-
James 5:16(KJV) “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye
may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Pornographic Addiction is a spiritual
enslavement that wears the emblem of sexual disorder, so you need to invest a
lot in dealing with the root cause of it spiritually. You must pray and seek
the spiritual support of other matured brethren, remember something will not go
away except by fasting and prayers.

Always be in the Right environment – There are some
environments and friends that easily triggers those pornographic scenery in
your mind, please try as much as possible to avoid them. Remember the scripture
says that “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the
counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the
seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1(KJV).
You are more strengthened to deal
ruthlessly with pornographic addiction when you are always in the right environment
and with friends that redirect you energies on positive things such as study of
God’s word, praying, sharing the gospel or sporting engagement. You must
minimize to the lowest degree your association with friends and relatives who
are always talking about sex and don’t see anything wrong with engaging in illegal
sexual affairs.
Besides this, you must avoid movies and music videos that triggers
those sexual cravings in you, If you
have downloaded some pornographic movies on your laptop or PC, please get rid
of them and also avoid online sites that promote sexual impropriety
· Always be in the right environment and with the right people – Once you have gotten rid of these sexual triggers and wrong environments,
make sure you surround yourself with the right people. The bible says that “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth
the countenance of his friend.” Proverb 27:17 (KJV). If you build a healthy
relationship with the correct believers you are more likely to move far away
from pornographic addiction; associations that are always talking about making
impact for God and impacting the community positively will add more steel to
your victory against sexual impropriety.
I can’t agree more with the saying
that goes “show me your friend and I
will show you your character” upright friends will make you an upright
person. Beside the right people, you must replace the meditation of your heart
and minds with God’s word and His plans for your life. Because your mind was
full of sexual perversion, you must replace this thought with Godly ones
through constant intake of God’s word;
you must read His word, study it, memorize it and above all meditate on it.
If
you don’t, your situation will be like the case in Mathew 12:43-45 (KJV) “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a
man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he
saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come,
he findeth it empty, swept, and
garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more
wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the
first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”
As we draw the curtains
to a close on this long journey, I want you to know that you are an overcomer
as you collaborate with God to battle against pornographic addiction, do not
let guilt, shame and embarrassment keep you in the mud - “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the
victory that overcometh the world, even
