“DOES GOD REALLY NEED A NATIONAL CATHEDRAL? (PART 3)
“ all men should be saved and come to know the truth” 1st
Timothy 2: 4
Thank you for joining on this journey called
“DOES GOD REALLY NEED A NATIONAL
CATHEDRAL?. Today we want to continue from where we left off last week, and
todays questions is:
1.
DOES GOD NEED A BUILDING? Does God actually need brick and mortar? At
this juncture it is obvious that God’s idea of church is not a building: if he
really needs one, then the conversion of church buildings into mosques and
night clubs in the western world have
nullified the authenticity and the
integrity of our Lord Jesus Christ’s when He said in Mathew 16:18(KJV) “……………………………..
I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
But
the truthfulness of this scripture has been consolidated by the fact that, the
persecution of the body of Christ has always led to its growth and expansion; The
church of Jesus Christ is not an inanimate object, but a living organism whose
life is wired by the mighty Holy Spirit. The bible says in Act 7:48 – 49 (KJV) “Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in
temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, Heaven is my throne, and earth is
my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?”.
God’s
desire something better than a mere edifice made up mundane material, He desireS
something that is a vivid reflection of His attributes on earth. This reminds
me of a conversation between Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Samaritan woman in John 4:20-24 (KJV) "Our fathers worshipped in this
mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to
worship. John 4:21 Jesus saith unto her,
Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor
yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. John 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we
know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. John 4:23 But the hour
cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in
spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship
him must worship him in spirit
and in truth.”
It’s obvious from this conversation that, worshipping at a
particular place (Jerusalem), has always been the custom of the people of God; but
Jesus Christ made it clear to the Samaritan woman that, that era is passing
away. The era where all must gather at Jerusalem ( A particular place) to
worship God. That was why He to the Samaritan woman in John 4:21(KJV) “Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me,
the hour cometh, when ye shall neither worship in this mountain, nor yet at
Jerusalem, worship the Father”.
Before Jesus meet the woman, it has been a
matter of dispute whether that a place of worship should be confined to
Jerusalem or Mount Gerizim. But Jesus made it clear in the to the woman that,
that controversy is not of much importance and the fact that the old era was
about to pass away. As a matter of fact, the worship of God, so long confined
to a single place, was soon to be celebrated everywhere, and with as much
acceptance in one place as I another. Jesus Christ did not mean that, there
would be no worship of God in that place or Jerusalem, but the fact that
worship of God would not be confined there. He would be worshipped in other
places as well as there.
In fact
in our time, the era of worshipping God at a particular place is long gone, let
alone talking about building a cathedral at prime place for God so as to honor
Him. That is not to say it is wrong to worship God at Jerusalem or places, in
other words building a cathedral for Christina in a prime place of Accra is
wrong, but the truth is that is not a headache to God. God’s greatest desire is
that “ all men should be saved and come to know the truth” 1st
Timothy 2: 4
