DOES GOD REALLY NEED A NATIONAL CATHEDRAL?( PART 4) WHAT DO WE NEED AS A NATION?
As we
conclude this journey, one thread that
runs across this narrative is “Our God doesn’t dwells in brick and mortar”
according Act 7:48 (KJV) “Howbeit the
most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet”.
It is clear from our journey so far that God doesn’t need a cathedral and that
showing appreciation to him as nothing to do with an edifice, but rather a
hearts condition that reflect godliness
in our conduct towards one another. A
heart of obedience is what requires of us.
When Solomon finished building the temple in
Jerusalem and dedicated it to the Lord in 2nd Chronicle, this was
God’s response to Solomon “ But if you
turn aside and forsake my statutes and my commandments that I have set before
you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will pluck you up
from my land that I have given you and this house that I have consecrated for
my name, I will cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword
among all the people” according to 2nd Chronicles 7:19-20 (ESV).
The question we should be asking ourselves
as country is, are we as a group of people following the statutes and the
commandments of God? The harsh reality is that majority of don’t, we are
religious, but do not really do what the Lord demands of us. Our streets and
communities are empty on Sundays, because we are at church worshipping God, yet
on Monday morning we are at our various work places stealing and engaging in
all kinds of evil. There have been occurrences of theft happening in our place
of worships.
However, I do agree that, there is a need
for a proper national edifice to host important events, because as it stands
now as a country, we don’t have any proper befitting events center that can
easily host important national events, hence, the need for a large capacity
multi-purpose event center. But as to whether building of this expensive
structure is of top most priority is what I am not sure of. There is nothing
wrong with building multi-purpose, ultra-modern event center to host national
event, but trying to ascribe it as an appendage of God’s glory is where the
challenge is.
I think, we should leave God out of this,
and go ahead and build our multi-purpose hall. As Ghanaians we should go ahead
and have a national dialogue on this especially as far as its timing is concern
at this stage of our national infrastructure development is concern.
The thought I have shared on this journey so
far is my opinion as a Ghanaian and preacher, if you have any questions,
