CHRIST THE STANDARD - PART 3

“It was of this that God called you, for Christ himself suffered for you and left you an example to follow, so that you will follow in His steps. He committed no sin, and no one ever heard a lie come for his lips” 1 Peter 2:21-22(GNB)

Let continue from we ended in our last edition under this Journey called " CHRIST THE STANDARD". In one of his many confrontations with the religious leaders of his days, Jesus warned his followers not to follow the conduct of the religious leaders but only imitate their teaching, and I quote from Mathew 23:2 -3 (GNB) “ The teachers of the law and the Pharisees are the authorized interpreters of Moses law. So you must obey and follow everything they tell you to do; do not, however, imitate their actions, because they don’t practice what they preach”

What Jesus sought to communicate to his followers is quite clear - which is the word of God, which he represents. The word of God is the only standard by which one can measure his spiritual attainment, not a lifestyle of their religious leaders. By extension, we are being told not to emulate a lifestyle that is void of rules, ethics, morals, and the absolute truth. But shun a life full of hypocrisy, dogma, and legalism.

No matter how anointed a man is or how close he is with God; he is still a man, therefore the imperfect life of man cannot represent the absolute truth about God. The only person who is the truth is Jesus Christ; he is an embodiment of absolute truth, and an incarnated truth. Thus the only way of knowing and experiencing the truth is to follow Jesus Christ - his person and his lifestyle. Jesus said in the bible " ............." I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me"  " John 14:6 (GNB). Thus, it is only in following him that one can experience the truth.

It is a known scriptural fact that Moses was intimately acquainted with God; Moses was the person God used to deliver the ten commandments to humans. It was recorded in the bible that Jehovah God himself spoke to Moses Face to face “ So I speak to him face-to-face, clearly and not in riddles; he has even seen my form…….”.  and Exodus 33:11(KJV) when the scripture says "And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle." Yet with all these privileged divine encounters with God, Moses missed the promised land.

David, another mighty and anointed man of God; a man God himself described as a man after his own heart and I quote “……………. I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will. Act 13:22 (KJV). Yet with all these divine affirmations from God, David committed some serious errors that unleashed the anger of God on him and his descendant. The bible says in 2 Samuel 12:9-10 (KJV)  "Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife."

The bible is filled with a lot of anointed men of God who messed up big time. This truth substantiates one truth, that is no matter how anointed a man is, he is still weak; every man of God has a weakness. Because every genuine man of God is weak and anointed,  they cannot be the standard as far as the absolute truth is concerned. However, the scripture is filled with only one person, who was and he is still, is, yet never weak. That person is my saviour Jesus Christ; I say Jesus Christ is “Anointed and yet not weak” .

The bibles say and I quote, “It was of this that God called you, for Christ himself suffered you and left you an example to follow, so that you will follow in His steps. He committed no sin, and no one ever heard a lie come for his lips” 1 Peter 2:21-22(GNB).  it is time for me to pause, and bring this week's journey to a close, but I will round up this wonderful journey in my next edition. God bless you.
